In the first instance – any fees for completing our journeys are passed to the passenger/booker/client – the fees are common to all private hire and taxi airport transfers. If I owned an airport – I would probably charge a fee for every car that came in. To have a realistic chance of changing the status quo – I fear that it might take govt legislation – and our political adversary’s need to have the political will and opportunity to take up the challenge. We – as an industry – need to bang the drum in unison to encourage the politicians to sit up and take note…

Thanks Steve, I will do. I got an auto-response from Wayne at LA yesterday saying he was out of office until 30th June – so I will carry my old paperwork (it has no expiry date) until then.
Previously – when they’ve tried to phone me when they’ve been working from home – they try and phone me – but withold their numbers. My phone won’t accept incoming calls from people who withhold their numbers, so I was given a stern talking to by them…I politely offered them words of advice…

Whilst I can see how CCTV can help prevent and detect crime, I can see that mandating CCTV in all Private Hire vehicles shows a lack of understanding of what a private hire vehicle is. The clue is in the name. My clients hire a PRIVATE hire vehicle, and whilst it might be expected to have CCTV in a private hire vehicle (similar to bus and train), I personally would NOT want to have CCTV mandated in a private hire Chauffeur driven vehicle (although it sits under “Private Hire” licence). Maybe Private hire could include three sub-categories 1)standard private hire, 2)restricted licence private hire – suitable for school runs and SEND journeys, and 3)executive chauffeur vehicles.

I recently took one of my e-class cars (plate exempmt) off licence, so that I could lend it to a client whose personal car was off-the-road. I’ve now had the car back, and renewed it’s 12 months PHV licence, and am the first in our Local Authority to ask for the car to be plate exempt for a second time. LA has promised to send paperwork through – but until then, I still have the original paperwork.
