Mission and Values
The LPHCA's primary role is that of a trade body that passionately represents (in conjunction with our membership) the interests of licensed taxi and private hire vehicle operators (both minicab and chauffeur) that take pre-bookings. Indirectly, we also represent our members' drivers' interests although we do not have a driver membership.
At the present time we have around 20,000 drivers attached to the LPHCA membership, and we plan to increase that number and utilise it to benefit both our members and the travelling public.
As a company we were with the LPHCA in its infancy, with only half a page of members in those days, and that was before all the licensing came in. We drifted away for a few years, but are now back. I feel we need to be heard, and Steve and all the team do a fantastic job of raising awareness, and are the only organisation that fights our corner. We need the LPHCA and it needs all our support. Keep up the good work everyone.

The Chairman
Steve Wright MBE has been involved for many years in the private hire industry as a driver, operator, trade association chair and campaigner. He, along with others, successfully achieved the long-standing goal of getting the London Private Hire Vehicles (London) 1998 Act onto the statute to make the London PHV industry fully licensed.
Following the ascension of the 1998 Act into law, Steve has worked closely with Transport for London (TfL) and was appointed to the TfL Board for two four-year terms by former PM and London Mayor Boris Johnson. Steve was a primary advisory stakeholder for the trade for the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) in 2012 and the three-year Law Commissions Taxi and PHV Review.
In 2018 Steve was appointed to the government’s Taxi and Private Hire Task and Finish Group, chaired by Professor Mohammed Abdel-Haq, which set out the blueprint for national taxi and PHV standards.
More recently Steve has been focusing on working with the IoL, National government, and Regional and Local Licensing Authorities on the difficulties facing the taxi and PHV industry on the challenges post-pandemic. This includes driver shortages, in particular in the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) transport sector. His current primary focus is supporting the call for restricted licences, and speeding up the licensing process to address serious supply and safety issues.
