The Licensed Private Hire Car Association (LPHCA) is a membership-based trade association that represents licensed private hire operators (providers of private hire vehicle and taxi services that the travelling public can pre-book) in the UK, and provides help and information on licensing, industry matters, and news for our members, plus supplying information for industry product suppliers, Local Authorities, licensed operators and private hire and taxi drivers.
Important Update from the LPHCA Team
We would like to inform you that Steve Wright, Chairman of the Licensed Private Hire Car Association (LPHCA), was recently taken unwell and admitted to hospital following a minor stroke. He has been receiving excellent care from the hospital’s stroke unit, including rehabilitation and physiotherapy, and the doctors are optimistic that he will make a full recovery.
Steve has always been deeply committed to the private hire and taxi industries but while he focuses on his recovery, the LPHCA team will continue to support members and partners, ensuring the association’s activities run smoothly.
As you may know, the LPHCA Roadshow is scheduled for Thursday 18th September at the London Heathrow Marriott Hotel. It is Steve’s wish that the event goes ahead as planned, and the team will be managing exhibitors, speakers, special guests, and attendees to ensure it is a successful day.
We sincerely thank you for your understanding and support during this time and look forward to seeing many of you at the Roadshow.

LPHCA AGM & Roadshow 2025
Registration for the LPHCA AGM & Roadshow 2025 is NOW OPEN, and we encourage you all to pre-register for this prestigious event, taking place on 18th September 2025 at the London Heathrow Marriott Hotel.
We are making good progress with the plans for this year's Roadshow, covering a range of key issues facing both Members and Commercial Partners, plus discussion of any proposed changes to licensing requirements following dialogue with the government.

Congestion Charge Submission
The Congestion Charge was brought in to reduce congestion by former Mayor Ken Livingstone. Wisely, he allowed both London Taxis and PHVs to be exempt as both modes reduce car ownership and the number of private vehicle journeys in London.
The arrival of app-based platform operators, who in some cases refer to themselves as ride-hailers, whose drivers allegedly often come into central London without work, in our view has caused more PHV activity in the Congestion Charge Zone (CCZ). This is because those entering without a job, once the fee is applicable, have no reason not to stay longer.

The Love Local Taxi & Private Hire campaign has been set up by iCabbi, one of the LPHCA's long-term Commercial Partners, to drive awareness of the value of local cab companies to their communities.
