Following the LPHCA’s communications with Government and Local Authorities, we are pleased to confirm that taxis or vehicle hire businesses can remain open under Statutory Instrument: Public Health, England 2020 No. 350 – The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020.
This act was laid before Parliament at 2:30pm today (Thursday 26th March 2020) and came into force from 1pm today. This positive news follows on from the LPHCA directly lobbying and communicating with our contacts at the Department for Transport, therefore we are delighted to see that 'taxis or vehicle hire businesses' have made it onto the list.
Although this is positive clarification that our industry's operators can continue working (whilst continuing to follow the recommended Government advice), the document does say that "these restrictions must be reviewed by the Secretary of State every 21 days, with the first review taking place by 15th April 2020" and that "the closures and restrictions last until they are terminated by a direction given by the Secretary of State."
