30th May 2018
The High Court has today ruled against the LPHCA's challenge to TfL’s new private hire operator licence fees, however our commitment to seeking fairer fee reforms will continue.
Steve Wright MBE, Chairman of the LPHCA, said:
It is regrettable the LPHCA has needed to ask the High Court to determine the legality, or otherwise, of Transport for London’s new ‘Private Hire Operator Licence Fees’.
Our challenge was founded on questions surrounding the sufficiency of information during the consultation and whether fees were set for an improper purpose. In handing down its judgement today, we are disappointed the Court has found in favour of Transport for London.
In light of the decision, and the on-going impact on the wider trade, the LPHCA will focus its efforts elsewhere by firstly seeking an open dialogue with TfL on a potential review of the current fees, now the overall regulatory impact is much clearer.
6th June 2018 Update
On Tuesday 5th June we met TfL Commissioner Mike Brown to cover a number of important matters including the potential Congestion Charging of London PHVs, the current TfL Consultation, the English Language tests and, of course, London Operator Fees.
We put forward concerns about the fairness and reasonableness of the fees and exampled the problems and the need to re-engage with TfL TPH. Mike Brown assured us that on-going dialogue would continue and asked that we forward concerns, problems and ideas for consideration.
We have written to LPHCA members with much more detail and we will keep members constantly updated.
